Zimbabwe player says Flames competitive

Zimbabwe’s Warriors’ midfielder Denver Mukamba has told his country’s The Herald newspaper that the Flames are a competitive side not to be underrated going into the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying race.

“You cannot look down upon a team and say it is Swaziland and Malawi. They have become competitive teams. Malawi also have their players playing here and in the South African Premiership Soccer League [PSL] and they are good,” he is quoted as saying.

flamesMukamba, who plays alongside Atusaye Nyondo at University of Pretoria, also described the other Group L member Guinea as “very dangerous when attacking and they all go out—midfielders and strikers—in attack, but their defence is not very solid.”

The group’s other member, Swaziland Sihlangu’s head coach Harries Bulunga believes, according to Swaziland Observer newspaper, the draw is fair.

“I think this is a fair draw to all the countries as rankings will not count this time around. We need to have proper preparations and also ensure that we win all the three home games and at least settle for draws in the away games. This can give us a better chance of qualifying for our first-ever Afcon finals,” he said.

Flames coach Young Chimodzi is, however, not throwing caution to the wind, saying his squad badly needs depth if it is to qualify for Gabon as either group winner or two second best sides across the 13 groups.
