Zimbabwe’s Mwando challenges Chiotcha again

After gathering enough courage through his recent triumphs in Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Namibia, Zimbabwean boxer Brian ‘Six-to-six’ Mwando has again challenged Chimwemwe Chiotcha for a rematch slated for either the BAT ground or Blantyre Youth Centre on November 4.

Mwando slumped to a seventh-round knockout defeat by Chiotcha during their non-title middleweight rematch at Zomba Community Centre ground last year. Their initial bout was declared a no contest at the BYC due to lack of electric power to light the venue after darkness crept in.

However, according to Super Magic Boxing Promotions’ director Daudi Chikwanje, the Zimbabwean, whose record was spoiled to one loss and seven wins, would like to face Chiotcha again so that he can restore his pride.

“He says that his recent three wins (two knockouts) have given him enough confidence that he will avenge his loss against Chiotcha,” Chikwanje said.

He, however, said that the two boxers’ encounter will be a 10-round elimination fight ahead of the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) middleweight title bout against a Ugandan, who holds the title.

“The winner between Mwando and Chiotcha will fight a title bout against a Ugandan boxer in the next few months,” Chikwanje said.

On his part, Chiotcha, who is seeking his 12th straight knockout victory on the professional ranks, said the Zimbabwean will be his springboard to realising his dream of earning an international belt.

“All my life, I have been searching for an opportunity to fight an international title bout and I am happy that this chance will easily come my way through this so-called Zimbabwean boxer,” said Chiotcha, nicknamed Rhino by his fans.
