Northern Region Football League (NRFL) Division One side Zolozolo United has hired former Civo United coach Oscar Kaunda.

The Mzuzu-based outfit is eyeing promotion to the NRFL Simama Premier League next season.

Zolozolo United owner Kingwell Nyirenda said on Tuesday that the signing of Kaunda shows the team’s seriousness in their promotion campaign.

“Our focus is to participate in the 2016 Simama Premier League,” he said.

Zolozolo United finished second in the 2015/16 season.

Confirming the development, Kaunda said he is working with Zolozolo to be active in football.

“My job requires that I should always be active. I am coaching Zolozolo as they are preparing for 2016 Premier League participation,” he said.

Kaunda started his job with a 2-0 win over Katoto United last Saturday in the Presidential Cup.

The result means Zolozolo is through to the next stage of the Presidential Cup at district level.

Kaunda was fired at Civo for lack of Confederation of African Football (CAF) B Licence which is the minimum requirement for a Super League coach.
