Zomba Cycling Club intensifies preps for PIS regional finals

The Zomba Cycling Club has intensified its preparations in readiness for the Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) Eastern Region finals on May 5.

The cyclists are expected to compete in both men and women’s categories on a distance of about 150 kilometres.

In an interview at Zomba Community Centre ground on Sunday, before starting off to Balaka, the club’s coach Gibson Mitochi said the athletes are ready for the showdown.

“I have prepared the athletes well and we are just looking forward to the day of the final. As you can see, we have cyclists who can win the competition and proceed to the national finals on July 27. For us, the regional finals will just be a dress-rehearsal for the national competition,” he said.

Mitochi thanked Cycling Federation of Malawi for donating five mountain bikes and helmets to the club.
