Zomba Queens survive Ntopwa’s scare

Listen to this article

Zomba City Queens struggled on Sunday to beat Ntopwa Super Queens 1-0 at Chiwembe ground to reclaim their lead in the Arthur Mutharika Southern Region Women Football League.

Against the run of play, Ulemu Phiri connected home a fumbled ball by goalkeeper Ndaziona Sikelo in the 65th minute to frustrate Ntopwa Queens who missed at least five chances in the second-half.

The Zomba City Queens are back on top with nine points, the same as defending champions Blantyre Zero, who have an inferior goal aggregate. Queens have scored 23 goals while Blantyre Zero have notched 20.

For Zomba City Queens coach Richard Chipungu, their slight win is nothing to celebrate about, but to draw lessons from the result if they are to win their first trophy.
