Zomba United fire coaches

Zomba United, who merged with Complex Madrid, have sacked their head coach Tione Mhone and his deputy Harris Chiunda, general secretary Wanangwa Jere confirmed on Tuesday.

Jere said they arrived at the decision following a stuttering start in the Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division. The latest defeat was a 5-2 beating by Tigers Reserves on Sunday.

“The team’s performance was dipping with each passing game resulting in a six-game ‘winless’ run comprising two draws,” said Jere, noting that they had since approached Songani United mentor and Red Lions legend Dave Chelewani to take over the mantle.

Collins Thewe and Wilfred Nyalungwe have also in the recent past been dismissed at Zomba. The Zomba side was relegated from the Super League last season and reorganised themselves by merging with Madrid players and their coach Chiunda.

Madrid caused a sensation in the Presidential Cup after booting out Silver Strikers who successfully appealed the loss, saying Madrid had featured an illegal player Aico Maluwa.

Meanwhile, Tigers Reserves have replaced Chikhwawa United as early Premier Division pacesetters after the win over Zomba United.
