The just ended Standard Bank Blue Mingoli is bearing more fruits. South African songwriter, singer and producer Zonke is set to do a collaboration with Patience Namadingo, following an impressive show the two had on Saturday in Lilongwe.

This will be one of the few times that a Malawian musician  is working with a top South African artist. Both Zonke and Namadingo have confirmed the news, but have kept details under wraps.

“Yes, there is a great possibility of me collaborating with Patience. I have already initiated the process. I’m awaiting for his response,” said Zonke in an exclusive interview.

Without giving further details, she said as a producer, she believes Malawi music has got what it takes to go international.

“Definitely, the world has always taken elements of our music and right now all eyes are on Africa as a whole, we just need to strike while the iron is hot. Go out to put African music on the global map,” she said.

Namadingo, through his manager, Tonderai Banda, said the collaboration will be done as soon as planning is done.

“Zonke saw Patience performing on Friday night at Standard Bank CEO’s house during a customer treat. She was happy with him and immediately said she would love to work with him. Since then we have been corresponding through e-mails to see the way forward, but there will be a collaboration between Zonke and Patience,” said Banda.

However, he could not ascertain how soon music lovers should expect the collaboration to materialise.

“To be honest I can’t explicitly say how soon, I don’t want to lie. But the moment we finalise with them, we will let people know,” he said. n
