Nyasa Big Bullets are in mixed fortunes ahead of the TNM Super League second round kick-off this weekend.

Centre-back Miracle Gabeya is ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing a surgery on his leg following a fracture and a chronic ankle sprain.

But left-back Emmanuel Zoya resumed training yesterday after being sidelined from action for three months after tearing his Achilles tendon during the Airtel Top 8 quarter-final first-leg against Moyale Barracks in May.

Back in action: Zoya

The defender’s recovery is a boost for the People’s Team ahead of the TNM Super League second round first fixture against Nchalo United at either Mulanje Stadium or Kamuzu Stadium.

The league leaders were struggling at the back following Zoya, another left-back Yamikani Fodya and centreback Gabeya’s injuries.

In their absence, Bullets drafted in Gift Jana and Sydney Chabulika from the reserve side.

Meanwhile, Zoya says he needs a couple of weeks to gain full match fitness.

He said: “I will have to work really hard. It will not be easy to earn a place because the competition is high. The team is doing well and everyone is working hard. But I’m delighted to be back to do what brings bread and butter on my table.

“I would like to thank the entire management through the chief executive officer [Fleetwood Haiya], the technical panel and my fellow players as well as all the supporters who have been supporting me throughout the period I have been nursing the injury.”
