160 youths get vocational skills in Mzimba District

God Cares Rights Foundation has dilled 160 youths from Mzimba in electrical installation, plumbing, joinery and carpentry at its Ekwendeni Lay Training Centre.

Speaking on Tuesday during the graduation, the foundation’s director of training Robert Kumwenda said they picked the trainees from child-headed families, streets and poor families.

He said the two-year training sought to uplift the lives of vulnerable youths.

“We expect the trainees to start their workshops or work in the construction industry,” said Kumwenda.

The foundation’s executive director Agnes Mughogho, whose institution pumped in K15 million for the courses, said she was excited with the outcomes.

One of the trainees, who is an instructor at Kafukule Skills Development Centre in the district, thanked the foundation for the training.

“Some trainees are doing well in their communities, courtesy of the training from the foundation,” he said.

Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training Authority executive director Elwin Sichiola warned the trainees against selling the startup tools his institution gave them.
