M’Mbelwa District Council chairperson Yolanda Ngwira has expressed satisfaction with construction projects implemented by Balaka District Council.

He said this on Saturday at the end of an exchange visit to Balaka District to appreciate progress of construction projects under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery and District Development Fund.

During the tour, M’Mbelwa District Council members appreciated a district commissioner’s (DC) house and other projects.

“We will implement some of the lessons learnt from Balaka such as the construction of a district commissioner’s house as we are spending money in paying rentals for our DC,” Ngwira said.

She then asked Balaka District Council to visit Mzimba and learn irrigation farming.

Balaka acting DC Darwin Mngoli said at first they thought they could not manage to build a DC’s house, but with support from stakeholders, they accomplished the task.

He accepted to visit Mzimba District in future to learn irrigation farming.

“Balaka District always faces food insecurity due to dry spells. We will be pleased to learn irrigation farming so that our people can improve crop production,” he said.

Balaka District Council has been a star performer in Local Authority Performance Assessments for the past years.
