Bullets offload seasoned players

End of the road. Nyasa Big Bullets have released eight seasoned players as they look to rope in fresh blood.

The eight are battle-hardened forward Chiukepo Msowoya, midfield workhorse Chimango Kayira, defender Sankhani Mkandawire, winger Dalitso Sailesi and injury-plagued right-back Pilirani Zonda.

Others are strikers Nelson Kangunje, Zicco Mkanda and Bright Munthali.

A statement issued by the People’s Team yesterday states that their contracts will not be renewed.

The statement reads in part: “All developments regarding players extending their contracts, joining or re-joining the club will be officially communicated as soon as they are confirmed.

“We thank all the above players for their contributions to the club and we wish them all the best in the future.”

Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga confirmed the development, saying the players have been released on advice from the technical panel, considering that their contracts were due for expiry.

He said: “We made special arrangements to partner with a West African agent so that we could open a gateway for Malawian players to the European leagues which are competitive and lucrative. We felt it was important to open another market having been reliant on the PSL [Premier Soccer League] in South Africa for a long time.”

Malawi players such as defender Lawrence Chaziya, goalkeeper Charles Thom, midfielder Zebron Kalima and defender Gomezgani Chirwa attracted interests from several clubs.

Nyamilandu said Royal Soccer Scout managing director Amadou Tigana is now handling all the enquiries.

“All the enquiries we received were made through him,” he said.

Nyamilandu further said Tigana is expected to visit the country to appreciate more talent.

He said: “We are making arrangements for him to come to Malawi to watch the domestic league and the junior national teams.”

“We have a great and strong professional relationship with clubs in Africa, Asia, America and the world at large.” Some of the players contracted to Royal Soccer Scout include Abdoulaye Ba (Rayo Vallecano, Spain), Maxime Loic Feudjou (Al-Orubah, Saudi Arabia), William Tchuameni (Nogometni klub Inter Zaprešić, Croatian), Donald Djousse Dering (Maritio FC, Portugal), Franck Njiki Cedric (AS Roma,Italy), Mpindi Ekani Victor (Sondersjyske, Denmark) and Justin Shonga (Orlando Pirates, South Africa).
