Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves are closing in on the PowerStart Tayale Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Cup defence after reaching the semi-final stage on Saturday following a 1-0 victory over Bangwe All Stars.

Wongani Kaponya’s lone goal in the first half at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre was enough to help the Enos Chatama-coached side to book the last-four ticket.

They have joined Zingwangwa United in the semis. Zingwangwa beat The Boyz 3-2 in the quarter-finals last week.

On Saturday, Kaponya lurched on to a loose ball near the box before unleashing a thunderbolt into the far corner, leaving All Stars goalkeeper Elias Missi sprawling on to the ground.

However, Reserves were lucky to secure victory in a tense encounter that kept supporters of both sides on the edge of their seats for the better part of the 90 minutes.

Reserves dominated play in the first half, but All Stars came with all guns blazing in the second stanza. Mabvuto ‘Tigana’ Lungu’s charges created a number of chances, but failed to make them count.

“There is no easy win in football, what matters most is to make good use of chances that come your way. We are excited to reach the semis,” Chatama said.

On his part, Lungu said they were dissapointed with the defeat, but he applauded his charges for a spirited performance.n
