Cezobal win Pa Mo All Stars Basketball tourney

 Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) All Stars men’s team on Saturday won the day-long National Bank of Malawi (NBM)-sponsored Pa Mo All Star Basketball Bonanza with a 50-40 victory over Mo626 College All Stars in a thrilling final at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences courts in Blantyre.

Wishes Kakomo paced the winners with 15 points, 2/3 Free Throw shooting, five rebounds, a steal and no turnovers to claim the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade and help the team earn the K1 million winners’ prize.

Southern Zone Basketball Zone (Sozobal) All Stars emerged third following an 80-54 win over their Northern Region counterparts (Nozobal) in a third-place contest.

On their way to the final, Cezobal beat their Northern Region counterparts (Nozobal) 67-43 in the semi-finals while Mo626 College All Stars triumphed 61-55 over Southern Region’s Sozobal All Stars in the four-team men’s category.

“It feels great to win all our

 games with resounding victories. This shows our depth in class, teamwork and hardwork. We are grateful to NBM for giving us a platform to showcase our skills,” Cezobal All Stars captain Peter Mdulamizu said.

In the ladies’ section, Sozobal All Stars beat Mo626 College All Stars 58-42 to receive K750 000.

Deborah Mtegha was instrumental in Sozobal’s glory as she made an individual contribution of 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals to be named the MVP.

To spice up the show, NBM management and corporate team took on the Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) executives and leaders. NBM won 46-23.

NBM head of client coverage Wilkins Mijiga said they came up with the K10 million bonanza to hype up the basketball mood ahead of the Mo626 College Basketball Tournament’s return to action on February 26 and they were happy it achieved its purpose.

“We are in love with basketball and we are delighted that our investment in the game is bearing fruits,” he said.
