Covid-19 measures to remain in place

Government says even though the positivity rate for the coronavirus, and the number of deaths due to Covid-19 continue to decrease, it is concerned with the slow pace in the country’s Covid-19 vaccine uptake.

In a statement released after a press briefing in Lilongwe, Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has since called on employers to devise ways of ensuring that their employees are vaccinated saying the vaccine is one of the most powerful tools available to fight the pandemic.

He said on its part, government will intensify initiatives to increase awareness, and bring the vaccine to the people, especially in rural areas, through establishment of non-traditional vaccination sites, and
working with chiefs and other community leaders.

The Ministry says due to the limited number of those that have been vaccinated, the current recommended public health and other measures will remain in place.

This includes the current limitations on indoor and outdoor gatherings, and travel and transport.
