The report, signed by Phalombe district commissioner Rodrick Mateauma, has described the disaster as one of the worst to have happened in the district.

It further said the disaster has affected almost all the traditional authorities (T/As) in the district with T/A Jenala being the worst hit.

“So far, immediate needs include foodstuffs, tents, education facilities, blankets, clothes, sanitary kits, kitchen utensils, medication and airlifting services,” reads part of the report, which has been submitted to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma).

The report further says many affected households are camping in evacuation camps, schools and churches.

Meanwhile, Dodma director of response Moses Chimphepo has advised the district councils to provide information on Cyclone Ana-induced disasters in their districts to enable the department to lobby for support.
