South Africa-based Malawian film actor Eugene Khumbanyiwa, who recently made international headlines when he starred in 2018 TV mini-series The Looming Tower and The Roar, has again been featured in another Hollywood movie Beautifully Broken.

Writing on his Facebook page, the actor said he is happy to be part of the new film coming out under Big Film Factory which is expected to be officially released on August 24 via Art Affects.

When contacted, Khumbanyiwa confirmed the development, saying: “I am happy to be in the film.”

He, however, promised to furnish The Nation with more details once the movie is officially out.

But, according to Hollywood’s www.deadline.com, the film is about a refugee’s escape, a prisoner’s promise and a daughter’s painful secrets that converge in what is a true story of hope.

The publication adds: “As three fathers fight to save their families, their lives become intertwined in an unlikely journey across the globe, where they learn the healing power of forgiveness and reconciliation.”

On her Facebook page, Mdalipako Kathewera wrote: “My brother super proud of you” while Precious Prenice only said “Keep it up”.

The actor previously appeared in Blomkamp’s District 9 shot in the rainbow nation of South Africa. In the project, he played the role of a paralysed Nigerian by the name Obasanjoa.

Khumbanyiwa had his debut acting as uncredited extra in a 2004 film Hotel Rwanda, where he worked with actors Son Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo. He also acted in various TV commercials and South African soap operas Generation and Scandal.

Time and again, the actor is making strides to market Malawi through film and his other projects. His latest projects The Roar and The Looming Tower which were premiered in March this year received rave reviews in South-African social and mainstream media.

The new film, which will be released into 600 theatres, has cast members such as Scott William Winters (Lethal Weapon, Good Will Hunting), Benjamin Onyango (God’s Not Dead, Inception), Emily Hahn (Toy Story 3, Fresh Off The Boat), Eric Roberts, Jessica Obilom (Trafficked), Caitlin Nicol-Thomas (Nashville), Alan Powell(Quantico), and television personality Thomasina “Goo Goo” Atkins (Mary Mary). Christian music artists Toby McKeehan and Michael W. Smith also make appearances in the film.
