The statement, issued by the bank’s head of marketing and communication Levie Nkunika, reads in part: “In the past few years, the country has witnessed growth of the Flames to the point of qualifying for the Afcon 2021.

The bank said it believes in the great potential of this country and, as such, it positions its products, services and sponsorship to facilitate and promote growth in the economy and areas of sports.

The statement further reads: “Our brand promise is making growth possible and we are glad to champion the growth of the Flames. We have invested over K1.1 billion into nurturing football in Malawi through FAM, the Flames and FDH Bank Cup since 2016.

“We will continue supporting and promoting grassroots and national sports development in Malawi as this is our country as a homegrown brand.

“Our  vision of promoting sports in the country remains medium and long-term and great success will be registered over the next few years.”

FDH Bank says it remains dedicated to supporting the Flames and they shall continue to render the necessary support needed to propel the team and FAM to greater levels.

“We would like to take this opportunity to applaud the  Malawi Government and the Ministry of Sports for the support rendered to the team and FAM for continued leadership and vision for The Flames.”

In an interview yesterday, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu attributed the Flames’ Afcon finals  and last 16 qualification to FDH Bank.

He said:  “FDH Bank has consistently stood by our side as a key sponsor even during our lowest moments when the team was not doing well and other sponsors looked the other way.

“They have displayed great faith and patience with unwavering support through and through and that’s why we are all here celebrating the fruits of their investment with the Flames historic qualification into the round of 16 for the first time ever.

“Such are the type of partners we would like to have and keep closer to our hearts. We therefore would like to urge the sponsoring community to emulate the virtues displayed by FDH bank.”
