Japanese Embassy builds school blocks

 People of Lilongwe Mpenu have commended the Japanese Embassy for constructing five classroom blocks and renovating six classroom blocks at Nyama Primary School in the district.

The embassy has also constructed 11 toilets, a kitchen, installed a solar-powered system and donated desks to the school.

Speaking during the handover on Friday, Ambassador Satoshi lwakiri said the education sector remains one of his government’s priority areas.

He said the sector contributes to human capital development which is essential to the achievement of Malawi 2063.

“I urge you to take care of the facilities to enable children to learn in a good environment,” said lwakiri.

Ministry of Education director of basic education Esnarth Chaponda said the facilities have improved basic education in the area.

She said the solar power system will help pupils study in the evening.

Traditional Authority Mazengera thanked the Japanese government for the support.

He said during the rainy season, pupils were struggling to learn because classes were conducted under trees.

The initiative has cost K74 million.
