Goals from Zeliat Nkhoma and Deus Nkutu helped Kamuzu Barracks (KB) get back to winning ways as they saw off a challenge from TN Stars with a 2-0 away win at Kasungu Stadium.
Kamuzu Barracks, who have played four games, have moved to second position on the log table, three points behind leaders Blue Eagles who are on 10 points.
Nyasa Big Bullets, who were second on Saturday after drawing against Eagles, are now third also with seven points, but from three games.
It was a relief for KB after losing to rookies Dedza Dynamos last week at Balaka Stadium.
But it was not a stroll in the park at Kasungu Stadium despite the 2-0 margin, according to coach Charles Kamanga.
“It was a difficult game despite winning 2-0. The players gave a good account of themselves. Players did what we agreed in training. They worked hard and defended well. I am really happy with the way we played and got the result,” he said.
KB next game is against Moyale Barracks at the weekend and Kamanga has described it as another tough fixture.
“Against Moyale it is always a difficult fixture and we need not relax. We need to prepare well during the week. There is need to maintain this momentum,” he said.
TN Stars coach Kondwani Mwalweni admitted in an interview that his team was outplayed.
“The players did not play according to instructions and it disturbed us. It just wasn’t our game. We need to sharpen our attack and also defend well,” he said.
In other games Civil Service were held to a 1-1 draw by Mafco at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Bashir Maunde’s own goal gave Mafco the lead, but it was cancelled by John Dambuleni strike.
Coach Franco Ndawa bemoaned the draw.
He said: “We gave them the goal. We have ourselves to blame.”
The was a second consecutive draw for Civo who also dropped points in a another one-all draw against rivals Silver Strikers in Lilongwe derby a week ago.
but Mafco coach Sterio Gondwe said a draw was better than no point.
He said: “Yes, we have drawn through an own goal. But we managed to get that goal because we were pressurising them.
“It was a tough game and a point is better than nothing.”
After a 3-0 loss to Rumphi United on Saturday, Mighty Tigers secured a point yesterday away against Ekwendeni Hammers after a goalless draw.
Tigers coach Trevor Kajawa felt they did everything to deserve full points in a match they created nine good chances.
He said: “It’s very painful. The draw is not a true reflection of the game. We missed a lot of chances. But its part of the game.”
