Dechagos Construction has donated three wheelchairs and an oxygen concentrator worth K2.2 million to Karonga District Hospital’s paediatric ward.

Speaking on Tuesday during the official handover of donation, the company’s managing director James Chagoma appealed to businesspersons in the lakeshore district to give back to the community.

He said: “Every time I come to the hospital, I note that wheelchairs are not in good condition.

“So, I was compelled to do something.”

Chagoma (R) hands over the oxygen concentrator to Sibale

Karonga District director of health and social services Dr David Sibale commended the company for the donation, saying the old wheelchairs had worn out.

“Again, the oxygen concentrator machine will be helpful in isolation centres,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sibale has commended Northern Region Water Board for committing to help with water supply in an arrangement that will see the hospital getting tokens of water on credit to maintain hygiene and sanitation at the facility which serves about 345 000 people.
