Karonga vow to end Bullets’ unbeaten run

Karonga United interim coach Christopher Nyambose has vowed to end Nyasa Big Bullets’ unbeaten run in the TNM Super League this afternoon at Karonga Stadium.

Bullets, who lie second in the 16-team league with 13 points from five games together with league leaders Blue Eagles, are yet to taste defeat.

Nevertheless, Nyambose, who has just been in charge of Ingwina ya Karonga for the past three days after replacing fired Zimbabwean tactician Lazarus Magaya, believes the home side will carry the day and bag their first maximum points this season.

“Of course, this is a tricky fixture considering that we are facing the defending champions at a time I have just been roped in as coach,” he said.

“However, we are like wounded buffaloes; we do not fear what comes our way. We will go flat-out attacking because, as you know, tinafa kale ndipo chokufa sichiopa kuwola.”

The former Chitipa United coach, who is having a second stint with Karonga, said they will do their best to impress their fans and move out of the relegation zone. Last season, Karonga finished fifth.

Statistically, Karonga at home have been a tough nut to crack for Bullets. They have met 10 times in league matches with Karonga winning two and drawing once. Karonga acquired the three good results at their fortress.

The Crocodiles first beat Bullets 1-0 at home in the first round of 2016 season before a goalless draw in the first round of the 2018 season. Karonga registered another 1-0 home win in the first round of the 2020/21 season.

Clement Nyondo and Khumbo Msowoya carry the hosts’ hopes going into the battle.

On the other hand, Bullets are likely to bank their hopes on towering Nigerian forward Babatunde Adepoju, Lanjesi Nkhoma, Patrick Mwaungulu and Chimwemwe Idana.

In other potentially explosive encounters this afternoon, Mighty Tigers host newcomers Dedza Dynamos at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre while Mafco entertain fellow Malawi Defence Force (MDF) outfit Moyale Barracks at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota.

Ekwendeni Hammers will also be at home against Civil Service United at Mzuzu Stadium.
