In an interview yesterday LGC golf captain Thomas Chafunya said preparations are at advanced stage.

“We are looking forward to what we expect to be a historic and beautiful day in history of golf in Malawi. Some family members of those we are celebrating their lives on Saturday have arrived in Malawi,” he said.

Luwe: Few family members will make a brief

Chafunya said the event will start by registration of golfers at 8:30am and then an opening function at 09:00am where LGC board chairperson Boyd Luwe will lead the directors and management in outlining the background and future of the event.

“Few family members will make some brief remarks before golfers tee off. After play, winners of the golf event will be decorated, the fallen heroes celebrated and awarded posthumously for making a great contribution to the golfing community, but also patronising the Lilongwe Golf Club which is an exclusive members’ club,” he said.

Guest of honour during the function will be Minister of Defence Jean Sendeza, whose late father, Khuma Sendeza, was an ardent golfer and dedicated member of the club.

Luwe said among  those to be honoured are deceased General Joseph Chimbayo,  Stallad Mpata, Agness Penemulungu, Ansley Ndovi, Sam Ngwira Cho and  Alf Raman.
