Afro-pop musician Kell Kay says all is set for his Ndabwera ndi Nkhani album launch on May 22 at Lilongwe Golf Club.

In an interview, the musician said he will be supported by the legendary Mafikizolo of South Africa as well as Zanda Zakuza.

Kell Kay: I am the main player

“I have always admired the duo [Mafikizolo] for their art. They have entertained us since we were young. Sharing the stage with them and having them to support my album launch is a dream come true,” he said.

Kell Kay said he also roped in Zanda Zakuza because she is an exciting stage performer.

“I love her stage energy and she too is a force to reckon with,” he said.

Reacting to concerns that the event may have too many supporting artists, Kell Kay said every artist earmarked to perform at the album launch knows that they will be there to support him and not as the main players for the day.

“Mostly, the other performing artists will have 15 to 20 minutes on stage. I am the main player and I will try to perform as many songs from the album as I can,” he said.

The musician also defended his choice to hire Mafikizolo and Zanda Zakuza, saying every artist has dreams and his was to share the stage with these.

“I know some are saying it is too expensive. But I am happy that everything is sorted and they are coming to support and share the stage with me,” he said.

According to Kell Kay, he will officially release the whole album on May 20, his birthday, before the celebratory launch two days later.

In a separate interview, one of the key organisers of the album launch, Levi Msakambewa said everything is set for the event.

“This is Kell Kay’s biggest day and we have put measures in place to ensure that the day is a success. The stage, the security and other logistical issues are all sorted and Malawians should come in large numbers to enjoy the day,” he said.

Other artists set to support Kell Kay include Gwamba, Phyzix, Charisma, Black Missionaries Band, Piksy and The Great Angels Choir.
