Mchinji Police Station officer-in-charge Rhoda Manjolo has asked Zambia Police to work together with Malawi Police Service to curb crime in the two countries.

She made the appeal in Mchinji on Monday when Mchinji Police Station officers held a meeting with their counterparts from Chipata in Zambia.

Said Manjolo: “Malawi and Zambia are brothers and sisters. We, therefore, ask for your support whenever we want to arrest criminals who escape into your country.

“This will help to reduce crime in the two districts.”

In his response, Chipata Central Police Station officer-in-charge Joseph Ngoma also asked for similar support from  Malawian police officers.

“Communication is paramount between the two  neighbouring districts and if we work together as a team, we will achieve our goal of ensuring that our borders are safe,” he said.

During the meeting officials from the two  law enforcement agencies agreed to have a joint operation to deal with human trafficking and smuggling.

The two sides also agreed to have regular meetings to strengthen the bilateral relationship.
