Malawians golfers dominate the Player Challenge Tour

Malawian golfers shone brightly in The Player Challenge Tour in which local golfers finished in the top three.

Lilongwe-based Adam Sailesi emerged winner of the three-day event after a stellar show at Lilongwe Golf Club while Victor Kachepatsonga and revered Paul Chidale came second and third, respectively.

Sailesi had a brilliant net of -6 after registering 71, 70 and 69 to conquer a field of 20, which included six foreigners.

Kachepatsonga had a net of -2 after registering 73, 69 and 72 while Chidale had 1 net after posting 75, 70 and 72.

According to organisers of the tour, Professional Golfers Association of Malawi (Pgam) vice-president PatridgeShycal, Sailesi’s feat earned him a cook K1 million prize.

In an interview yesterday, Sailesi could not hide his excitement.

He said: “Consistency was key in my victory. I kept my head up.

“I am also happy that local pros dominated this tournament. This is how it ought to be.

“I will not sit on my laurels by work even harder.”

Gabriel Chibale from Zambia and his compatriotMwalikhwaSondah were fourth and fifth in that order while Zimbabwean Ignatius Mteketeke finished sixth.

Other Malawian golfers who made the cut were were Roy de Costa, Rashid Salim and George Chisambo.

A fild of 20 golfers took part in the event which was co-sponsored by Hallmark Creations and Jinko Solar Products. Others were Standard Bank Malawi plc and Britam Insurance Company.
