Malawian boxers Limbani Masamba and Byson Gwayani take on fellow Tanzanians on May 29 in an international non-title bout dubbed Malawi versus Tanzania at MI Centre Point in Lilongwe.

Limbani faces Hashim Jafari Kilanga in an eight-round super welterweight while Gwayani takes on Samuel Mputi in an eight-round super lightweight as the main supporting bout.

Newly established boxing stable Time Bomb Boxing Promotion is sponsoring the bout.

In an interview, the stable owner Wilson Masamba said he was considering retiring from active boxing.

He said: “This sport is in my blood. We are a boxing family and everyone is aware about that. As I contemplate resigning from active boxing, I have decided to continue serving as a promoter to expose raw talent in the country.”

Wilson also disclosed that he has three bouts away from calling it quits.

Limbani: This is an opportunity

When asked about his preparations, Limbani said he would take the opportunity for an international fight to win.

“This is an opportunity to prove that I am a good boxer. It does not make sense to lose at your home yard that is why I have intensified preparations,” he said.

After turning professional in 2012, Limbani has fought 27 bouts winning 14 and losing 13. His opponent Kilanga has fought eight bouts with seven wins and one loss.

Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board director of research and information Gibson Chisale has since urged the two boxers to take the fight seriously despite being non-title because they have bearing on their records.

“For a boxer to be invited for international title fight, they look at their records. It is my plea that they take every fight seriously because it counts for one to secure agood fight abroad,” he said.

Apart from Limbani and Gwayani fights, Tinkhani Kamanga and face Aubrey Masamba will square off
