Malawi, through the Malawi Investment Trade Centre (Mitc) will on March 29 and 30 host business-to-business (B2B) meetings at the ongoing World Expo in Dubai aimed at showcasing trade and investment opportunities and attractiveness of Malawi’s business climate.

Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is holding the first world expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia from October 1 2021 to March 31 2022.

Kwengwere: We have changed our approach

According to Mitc chief executive officer Paul Kwengwere, the engagement which is a change from the earlier announced forum will provide a platform for Malawi to interact and collaborate with potential investors.

“We have changed our approach from a forum to a B2B event, where Malawian businesses will have a chance to meet international businesses one to one. We believe B2Bs are ideal especially in linking our private sector players with key business decision makers we have identified in Dubai,” said Kwengwere.

He added: “In business, time is of essence and these B2B meetings will provide a great opportunity for our project promoters here to build as many relationships as possible in a short period of time.”

Kwengwere said the event targets investors that share Malawi’s vision in improving investment flows as well as positioning our export products in international markets.

“To ensure that our private sector is prepared for these meetings, we organised a coaching session for those who have shown interest to participate so that they make the most of their time in Dubai in terms of marketing their projects to potential investors.

“Mitc is also matching different Malawian companies to companies with similar interest in Dubai in readiness for the B2B event,” he said.

World Expos bring together different nations across the globe in search of solutions to the pressing challenges of the day by offering a journey inside a universal theme by engaging stakeholders and immersive activities.

President of UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in his opening speech of the expo last year described the Expo as an opportunity to connect minds and opportunity to achieve milestones.

Malawi is among 192 participating countries at the event.
