Mchinji district social welfare officer Joyce Malika has asked well-wishers to help a mother who is in dire need of basic necessities after delivering triplets in the district.

He made the call on Thursday during a visit to assess the condition of Siwema Joseph, 30, and her husband, Abraham Sentiasi, 32, after the couple asked for help.

Malika said the mother is in bad condition after delivery and that she is unable to produce enough milk to feed her babies.

“The mother has not yet recovered after delivery and her poor health has an effect on the production of milk to feed her triplets,” she said.

Malika urged well-wishers to donate anything they can, considering that the family is poor and has barely enough to sustain three children who were born prematurely and had to be referred for kangaroo care services.

“The family doesn’t have warm beddings and enough clothes for the children. They also lack food and are in need of milk as a supplement to breastfeed the children,” she said.

In an interview, Joseph said she was still weak a month after delivery because she does not eat adequately.

“I am not fine since delivery, but I am better than before. I am only worried for my children because I cannot produce enough milk to feed all of them,” she said.

Mikundi Ward councillor Kennedy Chipanga said the family was indeed in need of basic necessities.

He said the family has six children, including the triplets, but they do not have a good house which prompted them to ask for help from Mchinji District Council and other well-wishers.
