Phyzix pushes for youth involvement in governance

Local hip-hop artist Phyzix has expanded his artistic boundaries by embarking on a campaign to woo the youth to actively participate in governance issues ahead of the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections.

The Blantyre-based ace, through a campaign dubbed Mutipatsa, wants the role of the youth and women to be more decisive by actively engaging the political players so that all key issues that are affecting them are included in their manifestos.

In an interview, Phyzix said it is also important that the youth recognise and take their rightful role in the electoral process so that the elections are free of violence and they are in a position to hold their leaders accountable after the elections.

“Our time is now. That is why we are encouraging fit and qualified youths to join active politics to enhance social and economic development. The youth should actively participate in policy-making, production and trade,” he said.

The campaign started as a social media wave which was later enhanced by the release of a theme song and video. Now the Mutipatsa challenge has been introduced whereby any youth is welcome to sing, rap or just talk over the instrumentation of the theme song to express their views.

He said: “From here, we will hold a college tour to engage students to understand their needs and challenges. We will have an open session with the student bodies to discuss and share thoughts on different issues.”

The Cholapitsa hit-maker said the campaign, which will be active during the pre-elections, elections and post-elections period is not pro any political establishment.

“Music and art is powerful. It has the ability to change moods, perspectives, mindset, educate and entertain. It is my wish to see more artists and musicians participating in issues of national interest. God blessed us with the talent and responsibility too,” he said.
