Urban musician Piksy has finished shooting a video of the theme song for the Clean-Up project which he was tasked by President Lazarus Chakwera.

The video has been produced with sponsorship from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Piksy: It is always nice to take on such responsibility

The song, titled Udindo, was released by the artist last year, which prompted UNDP to come forward and pledge sponsorship for the production of its video.

Piksy’s manager Wisdom Phanga said now work on the video, shot in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, has been completed and they are just waiting to announce the date of its release.

“UNDP were moved with how the song was coined and realising how crucial the message in the song was, they came forward to sponsor the video so that the message in the song can spread further. Now, we are glad that everything has been completed,” he said.

Udindo was first performed during the launch of the project, but it was never released to the public.

Phanga said soon after the release of the video, the audio version will also be made available to the public and radio stations.

In the song, Piksy comes to the fore. Predictably the composition has been aligned with the theme of the project as the artist dwells on the benefits of having cleaner communities, underlining the fact that it is the responsibility of every citizen to make their contribution.

In a separate interview Piksy celebrated using his art for the environment and cleaner cities.

He said: “It is always encouraging for us as artists when we are engaged to add our voice to issues of national importance such as these. It is always nice to take on such responsibility and play your role.” The President launched the project in 2020 and the singer and composer was tasked with composing its theme song.
