Recovery mission
A bad start for Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers to the 2022 TNM Super League season could be averted this afternoon as the two giants promise to put last weekend losses behind them.
Silver were stunned 1-0 by Red Lions on the road at Balaka Stadium while the Nomads suffered a 2-1 away loss to rivals Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The Bankers now host rookies Rumphi United at home Silver Stadium while the Nomads will sort it out with TN Stars at Mpira Stadium.
Silver assistant coach McDonald Yobe said the game against Rumphi United is a must-win.
He said: “We need to collect our first maximum points. We cannot afford to drop more points. That’s out of question.”
After starting with a loss to fellow rookies Dedza Dynamos, Rumphi United coach Gilbert Chirwa felt his charges had learnt a lesson.
Though facing two giants in Silver this afternoon and Blue Eagles 24 hours later, Chirwa is confident that it is time to prove that they can stand the heat in the top-flight league.
He said: “We know these are big teams. But well, that’s what playing in the TNM Super League means. You meet the best teams on the land.”
For the Nomads assistant coach Joseph Kamwendo, the loss to Bullets is now water under the bridge.
He said: “If you look at that game, Wanderers played much better. It’s just unfortunate that we lost. But that is in the past. We are now looking forward to the next game.”
In another interesting fixture, Red Lions host Karonga United, who also started with a 3-1 loss to Kamuzu Barracks at Karonga Stadium. Karonga will then face Dedza Dynamos tomorrow at the same venue.
Coach Lazarus Magaya said they have worked on the shortfalls from the first game.
