Lilongwe-based TNM Super League giants Silver Strikers’ campaign yesterday suffered a blow after going down 1-0 loss to Zomba-based Red Lions in their opening match at Balaka Stadium.

Striker Royal Bokosi’s lone goal was enough for the Malawi Defence Force outfit to collect maximum points from the FDH Bank and Pamtsetse Bonanza champions.

Silver assistant coach McDonald Yobe said in an interview that the Bankers were out of sorts in the encounter.

He said: “I am a bit disappointed with what has happened today. It’s a game football. We just have to work up. We had no punch today.”

Red Lions coach Mike Kumanga said in an interview that the victory over the Bankers was a morale booster for the soldiers.

He said: “Beating Silver in the opening match is a big achievement. We will continue working hard in the coming matches to maintain the momentum. I thank the boys for a job well done.”

In other matches played on Sunday, Blue Eagles beat Mafco 1-0 at Chitowe in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota through Arthur Moffat’s lone strike while Civil Service United saw off Sable Farming 2-0 with Christopher Kumwembe and Arnold Masamba on target at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
