Sankhani signs two-year contract with Blue Eagles

 Former Nyasa Big Bullets defender Sankhani Mkandawire has signed a two-year contract with Lilongwe-based Malawi Police Service sponsored Blue Eagles.

Reads a statement in part posted on Blue Eagles Facebook page: “This is to notify the soccer fraternity that defender Sankhani Mkandawire has joined Blue Eagles FC as a free agent and has since penned a two-year contract. Wishing him all the best in our colours.”

Since re-joining Bullets from Mbeya City Council FC of Tanzania in 2018, he won three TNM Super League titles in a row and the Airtel Top 8 Cup in the 2020/21 season.

In a separate interview, Blue Eagles chairperson Alexander Ngwala confirmed signing the player, saying he is an experienced player who will bring depth to the squad.

“Mkandawire is a good player. We believe that he will bring the needed impact to the

 squad. We expect good results from his presence at Area-30,” he said.

On his part, Mkandawire, who was recently released by the People’s Team, said it feels good to sign for the Area 30 outfit.

“It is true that I have signed a two-year contract with Blue Eagles. This is something that will give me opportunity to prove my worth. I am looking forward to a great season with the team,” he said.

In 2020/21 Super League season, Eagles had a nightmare as they escaped relegation on the final day of the season.

The Area 30-based side finished 12th with 32 points from 30 games, 30 points adrift of eventual champions Nyasa Big Bullets.

The defender was called into Mario Marian Marinica’s 30-man Flames provisional squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations but was left behind after testing positive for Covid-19.
