Skippers FC on Sunday demolished an eight-player Functured Sisters 34-0 to go top of the log table in Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Women’s League.

Functured featured eight players only because they failed to assemble a full team.

Following the win, Skippers, who have a superior goal difference, have displaced defending champions DD Sunshine on the log table.

Both teams have six points from two games.

Top-notch: Kasenda inspired her team

Striker Linda Kasenda scored 14 goals to become top goal scorer with 16 goals.

Love Nyakamela scored seven and she is second leading scorer with 10 goals, while Fazila Chiyembekezo and Jessie Yosefe scored four goals apiece.

Emily Jossam and Bernedetta Nyengo claimed a brace each while Zain Dude scored one.

Skippers coach Collins Pofera said: “This is a good result and to go top of the table is an achievement. It’s now our wish that we maintain the top spot.”

Functured coach Harold Limula said the result was not a true reflection of the team.

“We had paid dearly because we failed to raise a team to play this game. We only came with eight players and I must thank the girls for playing despite the challenge,” he said.

In another game, Hungry Lions and Chilinde Queens collected their first point each after a 1-1 draw.

Mervis Misomali scored for Lions while Tamandani Madukani scored for Queens.
