Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi on Easter Monday cheered communities in Traditional Authority (T/A) Mabuka in Mulanje with a call for unity.

Speaking during a donation of various items to communities in the area, Usi, who made the donation in his personal capacity, said it was difficult to develop when people are divided.

The donated items included footballs, netballs, boxes of mesh for girls and cartons of mosquito coils.

Usi said: “What is killing this nation is hatred or envy. We are one people. We have gathered here as children of one God.

“We have people here fromUTM Party, Democratic Progressive Party, Malawi Congress Party and United Democratic Front. Everyone must benefit regardless of party affiliation.”

The minister said that while the Tonse  Alliance administration is not immune to challenges, it is up to everyone to help share views on how the problems Malawi is facing can be solved.

In his remarks, village head Ngolowera said lack of unity derails development and everyone loses.

“We have a number of problems in our area which we want the Tonse administration to address and they include bridges, roads, a court house and a proper health centre where our women can deliver babies safely,” the chief said.
