Zomba City mayor Davie Maunde has asked vendors to be creative in their businesses if they are to contribute to the success of the  Malawi Vision 2063.

The mayor made the call on Monday in Zomba when Zomba City Council officially opened Sadzi Market.

He said: “There is a bad tendency among some businesspeople of booking a shop and renting it to others instead of running it themselves. When found, they will be brought to book because that spirit of unproductiveness will paralyse the city from socio-economic development.”

The mayor challenged the vendors and buyers to observe hygiene and sanitation to foster infection prevention in the city.

Sadzi Market chairperson Shukran Dyson Juma said they came up with by-laws to enforce security and cleanliness.

In her remarks, group village head Jeremani urged the council to be professional in managing the market.

“We don’t want to see vendors suffering or being punished over some issues they are not well acquainted with,” she said.

The market will be opening from 6am to 9pm daily whereas Tuesday and Friday have been set as market open days where traders from different parts of the country will be converging at the facility to sell their merchandise.
