combined nearly 40,000 hectares to produce Maize,

Rice, Soya, Groundnuts, Tobacco and Cotton. For

instance, under the Green Belt Authority, a total of 300

hectares has been rehabilitated at Nkopola and Lweya

Irrigation schemes.

ii. Labour Export: Following the signing of the

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18 April,

2024, the State of Israel issued the first job order in June

2024 requesting the Government of Malawi to recruit 500

out of the 3,000 agricultural workers stipulated in the

MoU. When operational, this program is expected to

improve the country’s remittances and overall foreign

exchange position.

iii. Carbon Credits Trading: Government through the

Environmental Affairs Department has developed a

draft article framework to guide and regulate the

implementation of carbon trading initiatives in the

country. The draft framework will be concluded before
