iii. Open a Voluntary Tax Compliance Window for

motorcycle operators.

Madam Speaker, the Country has thousands of

unregistered motorcycles, many of which were

smuggled into Malawi. This has created several

problems. Firstly, the operators cannot obtain insurance,

leaving themselves and passengers at great risk in

accidents. Secondly, knowing their operations are

illegal, these operators often act recklessly, endangering

public safety.

To address this issue, Madam Speaker, Government, through

the MRA, will open a voluntary tax compliance window for

motorcycle owners. This initiative will allow unregistered

motorcycles to be registered for a small fee. Designated

registration sites will soon be announced by the MRA. At

these sites, officials from the MRA, the Road Traffic

Directorate and the Police will collaborate to ensure a

seamless process, enabling operators to leave with their

motorcycles fully registered.
